Softwood comes from evergreen trees, which do not lose their needles or leaves in the winter, they are also known as coniferous trees. On average they take 25-40 years to grow to maturity before felling for timber production. This is much quicker than the average hardwood tree, which makes it cheaper, sustainable and more environmentally friendly to produce timber.
